Personalized Care for Rashes and Eczema at UDermic Health

Eczema

Common Symptoms of Eczema

Eczema can look different from person to person. Common symptoms include dry or sensitive skin, intense itching, redness or discoloration, rough or scaly patches, small bumps, cracking, and areas that may become irritated from scratching.

Symptoms may improve for periods of time and then return during an eczema flare-up.

What Causes Eczema Flare-Ups?

Eczema is often influenced by a combination of genetics, the skin barrier, the immune system, and environmental factors. Certain exposures can trigger or worsen symptoms.

Common eczema triggers may include:

  • Dry or cold weather

  • Heat and sweating

  • Fragrances and certain skin-care products

  • Soaps and detergents

  • Allergens

  • Certain fabrics or materials

  • Stress

  • Environmental irritants

Identifying individual triggers can be an important part of managing eczema and reducing future flare-ups.

At UDermic Health, we understand that no two skin conditions, or patients, are exactly alike. Rashes and eczema can have many different causes, triggers, and symptoms, which is why we take a personalized approach to diagnosis and treatment. Our dermatology providers work to identify the underlying cause of your skin concerns and develop an individualized treatment plan focused on relieving symptoms, improving skin health, and helping prevent future flare-ups.

Common Causes of Skin Rashes

Rashes can develop for many different reasons and may be a symptom of another skin condition or infection. Some of the most common causes of rashes include:

  • Atopic Dermatitis – The most common form of eczema, which can cause dry, itchy, irritated, and inflamed skin.

  • Bacterial Infections – Bacterial skin infections, such as impetigo, can cause rashes, sores, redness, and other changes to the skin.

  • Contact Dermatitis – A type of eczema that occurs when the skin comes into contact with an allergen or irritating substance.

  • Chronic Skin Conditions – Conditions such as acne, psoriasis, and seborrheic dermatitis can cause persistent or recurring rashes and changes in the skin.

  • Fungal Infections – Fungal skin conditions, including ringworm and yeast infections, can cause itchy, irritated, or discolored rashes.

  • Viral Infections – Certain viral infections, such as shingles, can cause painful, irritated, or blistering skin rashes.

Because many different skin conditions can produce similar symptoms, determining the underlying cause of a persistent rash is important for choosing the right treatment.
